New season practice – Get a Grip!
Mar 27 2012 Posted in Golf News by GoKartThrough the winter some of us have been test pilots for a new practice system – GRiP (game results in practice). And we have to confess we’re rather impressed. It’s an easy way to identify exactly the parts of your game that need the most TLC. So rather than mindlessly bashing balls you get results that are measurable and even fun…kind of fits into our ‘All Play No Work’ mentality rather nicely.
GRiP has been developed by Fergus Wallace, with a team of sports performance specialists and psychologists (including current fave golf guru Karl Morris) and has been trialled by an army of amateur and pro golfers in 21 countries throughout the world. Based on the principal of deliberate practice, if you work on your golf the GRiP way you’ll replicate the experiences you’ll have on the course, where each shot counts. Compare this to how most golfers act (mindlessly) at the range…we’ve all done it!…you can see how a specific framework of practice can soon reap results.
GRiP is now live and raring to go. You can sign up for a month’s trial at no cost to see how you get on. We predict some tumbling handicaps. Go on, get a GRiP.
Here’s some more info from Fergus and the GRiP team, with links direct to the site so that you can take a look for yourself;

Something stirs
Whenever we look forward to a dramatic season in which the world’s best will slug it out against each other, particularly in the majors, we are invariably left disappointed. So it is with a certain sense of resigned fatalism that I nevertheless wonder if 2012 could be one of those rare, stellar years that will not only bring excitement and drama for the moment, but establish the template for several years to come.
Rory McIlroy has just won the Honda Classic and in the process become the world ranked number one player – and it wasn’t unexpected. So far in Europe he has played six events, only once finished outside the top-10 (and that was 11th), won once and been runner-up twice. Right now his average game will see him in contention and if he plays to his potential, he wins. He currently heads the European Tour’s Race to Dubai and is fourth in the US Tour’s FedEx Cup rankings, after only two events in America.
But to add a little more spice to that already sumptuous menu, in that Honda Classic he was chased hard by joint runner-up Tiger Woods, who fired a best-of-the week 62 on the last day, his lowest round for three years and one which lifted him from 17th place overnight. Almost as impressive was the 63 from Lee Westwood, that vaulted him into fourth. And sitting at home, no doubt watching with interest, was Phil Mickelson, whose last two events have produced a win and a second place. Rarely have we seen so many of the world’s best golfers playing to such an exalted level at the same time. All we need to put the final garnish on top is for Luke Donald to wake from his (more…)

Apologies for the delay
Earlier this month the USGA held its annual general meeting and among other things, its head honcho Mike Davies – who has done so much to make US Open venues less punitive – was asked about long putters. He reminded journalists that the USGA has been ‘very public’ in saying it was to look again at the matter, particularly the issue of anchoring the butt of the putter handle to some part of the body. He said: ‘More players are using it, both on the elite and recreational levels. We are looking at it from the perspective of what is good for all golfers long term.’ USGA vice president, Tom O’Toole, added: ‘We would be irresponsible if we weren’t pro-active and looking at this issue.’
Note: Johnny Miller was the first tour golfer to use a long putter, which he introduced to the world in 1985. If the USGA’s idea of being pro-active is to decide to discuss something, 27 years after its appearance, heaven knows how it defines ‘reactive’.

Golf (Trolley) Sale
Feb 16 2012 Posted in GoKart News by GoKart**UPDATE 29/02/12. All ex-demo GoKarts are sold out now. Sorry**
We’ve been having a bit of sort out at GKHQ, and we’ve realised we have a few too many GoKarts that we use as demonstrators and loaners. So we’re going to have a February Sale.
The trolleys cost £60 (ROI €70) less than the normal price. They have been used, and will have some signs of this around the frame and wheels. But are all fully cleaned, serviced and up to date. They have the full two year warranty, and are supplied with a brand new battery (there’s the standard one year warranty on the battery).
So if you’d like a bargain priced GoKart, with exactly the same warranty as a brand new one, have a look in our webshop and click here. We have both Automatic and Standard speed control models. We can set them up in any colour you choose, but there is only a very limited number so you’ll need to get in quick.

Rock on a roll – hard not to like “The Hair”. Martin V reports.

Donald Ducks a bullet
I have never been able to work out if I would like or loathe my name to be remembered – but only as the answer to a trivia question. Such was the fate, I have always assumed, that would befall Mike Donald. And if his name rings a vague but unanswered bell it is because he is the journeyman pro who emerged from obscurity to go head-to-head with Hale Irwin for the 1990 US Open. I particularly remember it because I was at Medinah CC that week and like most observers, thought that, after matching Irwin after 72 holes, he would disappear during the following day’s 18-hole playoff. But he didn’t, and the two men were still locked together after 90 holes before Irwin finally struck the killer blow at the 91st.
As a consequence I have always had an affection for Donald so I was delighted to see him at the top of the leaderboard for the first stage of the European Senior Tour qualifying school, his 68 getting him into the final stage, where he would join another 72 hopefuls. They would battle it out over four rounds for six all-exempt places, and a further 14 conditional playing cards. Mike looked to have blown his chances after a first day 76 but he then rallied with three rounds of 70, to be the last qualifier, right on the mark of 286.
I will be following the rest of his season with particular interest.
Time to celebrate
How good a week do you think Robert Rock – or, as I like to call him, The Hair – has had? Head to head with Tiger in the final round of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, he outlasted the second best golfer of all time to lift his second European Tour title and elevate his status well above that of journeyman. Okay, Woods played like a donkey but nevertheless, the engagingly modest Rock, who has journeyed from assistant pro at a driving range to the fringes of the world’s top-50 in eight years, was deserving of the win. How long, do you think, before his shirt disappears under a plethora of corporate logos, and that magnificent coiffure is covered by a sponsors baseball cap?

Winner of Grand GoKart quiz announced -
Feb 07 2012 Posted in GoKart News by GoKartAnd the lucky person is….a very overexcited lady from Braintree whose husband has just announced that she’s the best wife in the universe, ever. So well done Jo S. You got all the answers right and got the final clue, so very clearly a bright bunny.
Bright enough to deserve a nice pair of Jimmy Choo’s from hubbie we reckon. Go for it Jo.
We’re not going to announce all the answers, as there are still some people bravely battling on, stretching their cerebral wotsits. BUT if it is driving you crazy with curiosity just drop us a line and we can put you out of your misery.
And if you want some more of the same but different, just take a look at www.riddlex.com where you can find tons more puzzles constructed by Joe Davies, the maker of the GoKart puzzle. Our favourite at the moment is the Sherlock Holmes. Take a look and you too can become seriously addicted. Nearly as tricky as golf.
